Russians are a proud nation with strong traditions. Although many of these are ingrained in their regular life, a select couple stand out as being particularly significant on ceremony time. A rushnyk, an embellished linen that symbolizes cleanliness and hope for the future, is one such custom. Additionally, it acts as a link to the child’s grandparents. The bride and groom are asked to step on the rushnyk during the wedding service. Superstition holds that the person who steps on it earliest will have the upper hand in a union. The fabric that is embroidered is typically dark, which is the color of life and procreation.

In a standard Ukrainian ceremony, the wedding is bought for her innocence and splendor. This is carried out using the Blahoslovennia festival. For same-sex or genderqueer lovers, the man and two older married men visit the parents of his intended partner to request permission to marry their princess during this formal commitment tradition. The wedding wraps a rushnyky around the men who are with her after the man asks and gives them horilka in sprit. If they consent to the union, they set the wedding day.

The bride and groom’s home people jointly prepare a sizable food known as Korovai before the ceremony. This represents the gathering of their communities to send them good wishes. Throughout the entire wedding festival, this bakery is placed close to the temple. The bride and groom share this bread with their closest family members, especially married males, after the service.

Max was shocked to see my Ukrainian niece during the festival slipping her marriage band onto her right side rather than her remaining, as it is in North America. In Ukraine, the bride may move to the left hand if her husband passes away before her, but the bridal ring is typically worn on the correct palm.

The fact that the groom usually asks the papa for his daughter’s hand in marriage in Ukraine is another distinctive feature of Ukrainian woman tradition. In contrast, this is not the case in the United States. Along with his buddies and local committed guys, the male travels to the princess’s home. The elders ( starosty ) then place a long rushnyk, or towel with intricate embroidery, in front of the parents who will be the bride. The man is therefore informed by the elders that he must purchase her for his money. The wedding may hardly take place unless he does so within a predetermined amount of time. This is referred to as “bridegroom purchasing.” The couple’s families had then receive the compensation from the male and his friends. After that, they go back to the couple’s house, where her papa congratulates them and gives them some wheat In the past, it was also customary for the wedding to spend the day in the groom’s home without wearing any clothes.
